Life Groups are essential for community and fellowship in the life of First Baptist Church. They meet each week following worship on Sunday mornings for Bible Study and prayer. The College Life Group typically completes two studies each year; one each semester. Most often, we study books of the Bible. We also study topics like church membership and spiritual disciplines every few years in an effort to help students leave college with healthy habits of faithfulness established.
Corporate Worship and Teaching
Come join our church family for a service of Scripture and Songs as we worship together. We pray for our church, our community and our world, and we also sing and listen to teaching from Scripture. We desire for college students to engage with others in our church, and this is a wonderful opportunity for those connections and interactions to happen.
On Sunday nights in the Fall and Spring, First Baptist Church comes together for specific topical teaching. Sometimes, the church as a whole studies one subject, and other times, several different classes with a range of topics are offered. This is another opportunity for students to build relationships with others in our congregation, as well as learn and grow in Christ.
Each Spring, the college ministry spends a weekend together to fellowship, encourage each other, and pray together for our church. It gives students space in the middle of busy semesters to rest and focus on the Lord, and remember that the Christian life was intended to be supported by community.
Opportunities to Serve
We desire for everyone in our church to actively make disciples both here in our own community and around the world. We partner with several local ministries in Jackson including ARISE Jackson, RIFA, ARM, Birth Choice and Youth Town.
We also work with Pioneer Missions each summer in Brazil to spread the gospel and build a chapel. We regularly travel to spread the gospel and encourage missionary families in Africa, East Asia, Central Asia and Southeast Asia as well.
Additionally, there are opportunities for college students to serve our church by leading in worship, helping with the children’s ministry or youth ministry, and encouraging our homebound members.
